An Information Processing Model
How Does Information Get In And Out Of My Memory?
Learning and remembering require you to:
1. SELECT the important information.

2. UNDERSTAND that important information.
3. STORE it in organized "files."
4. RETRIEVE information for use.
To understand how learning and remembering happen, take a look at the simple model (below). It shows how you select, understand, store and retrieve information. (It may help you to think of your memory as a computer.)
First CLICK on number 1.  Then follow the numbered arrows to learn about each phase of forming and retrieving a memory.
